The approach we take could be described as “Iyengar-inspired” Ashtanga yoga, we blend the dynamic flow of Ashtanga’s vinyasa sequences with the alignment-focused principles of Iyengar yoga. This approach emphasises precise alignment in each posture to build stability and reduce the risk of injury, while maintaining the rhythmic breath and movement of traditional Ashtanga. Props such as blocks, straps, and bolsters are often used to support students in achieving anatomically beneficial alignment and form, allowing them to progress safely and effectively. Instruction includes detailed cues and adjustments to deepen awareness of body mechanics and encourage mindfulness in practice. This hybrid method honours the discipline of Ashtanga while incorporating Iyengar’s meticulous focus, creating a balanced, accessible practice for students of all levels.
About us.
Jake Duckworth
Jake is a dedicated yoga practitioner and experienced teacher with over 28 years in strength and conditioning. He began practicing Ashtanga yoga in 2003 with Granville Cousins, initially to improve flexibility for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2018, he started studying with his current teacher Joey Miles, who introduced him to Iyengar yoga and its integration with Ashtanga. This influence deepened Jake’s appreciation for alignment and precision, which now shape his approach to teaching.
Through Joey’s guidance, Jake discovered Christian Pisano, one of the world’s foremost Iyengar teachers, with whom he has been fortunate to study multiple times in recent years. More recently, he has also trained with Iyengar teacher Stefano Bendandi, as well as his close friend and peer Marque Garaux. His understanding of Iyengar yoga enriches his Ashtanga teaching, making the practice more accessible and refined for students of all levels.
Beyond yoga, Jake is a dedicated Zen Buddhist, regularly attending Sesshin and retreats. He is also passionate about hiking and mountaineering, which strengthen his connection to nature and physical endurance. In the kitchen, he finds creativity and mindfulness through cooking. His holistic approach integrates physical strength, mental clarity, and a spirit of adventure, making his teaching both grounded and transformative.
Mandy Naylor
Mandy first discovered Iyengar yoga with Sue Rennie in the mid-1990s, drawn in by the precision and structure of the practice. At the time, she loved movement for the way it made her feel physically strong and capable but hadn’t yet appreciated the depth of yoga beyond the physical. Her career took her into the fitness world—personal training and teaching group exercise—before she moved into education as a mathematics teacher.
In 2003, she began practicing Ashtanga yoga with Granville Cousins, later deepening her studies with Joey Miles in 2018, her current teacher. Work was stressful and taking its toll, but yoga slowly became more than just a physical outlet—it started to work alongside Ayurveda, helping to bring balance and perspective. Alongside her career in education, her yoga practice grew. In 2019, she qualified as a yoga teacher in Rishikesh, immersing herself in the philosophy and practice beyond just the postures. Now, she sees yoga not just as a form of exercise but as a tool for balance, inner strength, and lifelong learning.
Mandy feels incredibly fortunate to have met Christian Pisano, whose teachings continue to inspire her and reinforce the idea that yoga is a journey, not a destination. As Christian beautifully puts it: "The practice is not about doing, but about undoing what is in the way of our natural state."
Life is busy—but Jake, her children Daniel and Olivia and yoga are what keeps her grounded, approaching both work and life with patience and presence.
